A new study shows that every month 0.36 per cent of U.S. adults become entrepreneurs. They created an average 550,000 new businesses each month from 1996-2004, and the trend is increasing.
The Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity analyzed the monthly Current Population Surveys from the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics to derive its index, which will be published annually by the Missouri-based foundation.
The first report uses data from 1996 - 2004, and finds that the rate of entrepreneurship was at 0.36% in 1996; 0.35% in 2001 and rose to .40% in 2004. The data was based on over 7.5 million samples.
